MMRC
The Midwest Music Research Collective aims to foster an interdisciplinary platform and to provide a forum for students of all disciplines to present their music research, and for emerging scholars to share their research and experiences. Our goal is to host a graduate conference on our campus to provide opportunities for presentation of research, performance, professional development, and networking. We are also dedicated to bringing scholarly research in dialogue with the greater Lawrence community by creating and hosting events that bring together scholars, artists, musicians, poets, and the local population.

MMRC has hosted several one and two-day conferences bringing together graduate students and scholars from across the U.S. and internationally; has brought in both emerging and established scholars to share their research in guest lectures, keynotes, and workshops; has hosted a call for new musical compositions that resulted in a performance of new works by KU and visiting performers; and has co-hosted a session of Nerd Nite Lawrence, which featured the research of several KU graduate students and faculty.
This year, MMRC plans to host a virtual conference in the Spring that is open to any and all graduate students who are interested in music. Additionally, there is a planned collaboration with KU MARC, the Musicians for an Anti-Racist College organization at KU, to establish a regular meeting where undergraduate and graduate students, and faculty can share and workshop their research interests. There is also a plan to commission works by emerging and underrepresented composers to be performed by KU students.
Membership in this collective is open to all graduate students who have an interest in music research.
